19th Century English Antique Fully Restored Camphor Wood Chest / Storage Trunk

A beautiful 19th century English antique camphor wood chest / storage trunk, fully restored and ready to be used and enjoyed.

This piece has been fully restored, with the wood carefully stripped back and traditionally French polished. The restoration has enhanced the rich colour, natural grain, and warm depth of the camphor wood while preserving the antique charm and patina of the piece.

Camphor wood trunks were highly prized throughout the 18th and 19th centuries, particularly for travel, storage, and campaign use. Camphor wood was valued not only for its attractive grain and durability, but also for its distinctive natural scent, which helped deter moths and insects. This made camphor chests especially useful for storing clothing, linens, blankets, silks, and other precious textiles. They were also commonly used to transport goods such as tea, porcelain, and silks from China to Europe, making them strongly associated with travel, trade, and colonial-era interiors.

The chest has a handsome and timeless form, with warm camphor wood tones and attractive natural grain movement throughout. Offering excellent practical storage, it is ideal for blankets, linens, clothing, documents, keepsakes, or general household items.

It would work beautifully at the end of a bed, in a hallway, living room, dressing room, country house interior, or period-inspired setting.

A handsome and highly practical 19th century English camphor wood trunk, beautifully restored with a stripped back and French polished finish, wonderful antique character, and timeless decorative appeal.

Caring for your items

Vintage period and original items, such as leather seating, will always have a natural patina in the form of cracking, creasing and wear.

We recommend regular waxing to ensure no moisture is lost and to keep out of sunlight.

For Hand-Dyed leather items, we don't recommend placing them in direct sunlight for prolonged periods, as they will dry out and fade.

For wood, we recommend regular, thorough cleaning and waxing also.

Care

To maintain the beauty and integrity of your purchase, we recommend treating it with care. Simple maintenance practices, such as gentle washing and proper storage, can effectively preserve the longevity of your favorites. We encourage you to refer to the care instructions included with each item, designed to help you keep your purchase in top condition.

Design

Our dedication to excellence extends beyond materials; it encompasses the artistry and craftsmanship illustrated in every piece we create.
