Description

Antiques of London

This beautiful antique wardrobe is a fine example of early 19th-century Georgian-inspired craftsmanship, attributed to the distinguished Irish makers Millar & Beatty of Grafton Street, Dublin . The maker's label remains intact at the back, a rare and valuable survival that authenticates its heritage.

Crafted in richly figured hardwood, the wardrobe displays the classic elegance of Georgian design. The doors are finished with matched flame hardwood veneers, producing a striking symmetrical grain pattern, and are fitted with original handles. A deep frieze with finely carved dentil moulding crowns the piece, giving it a strong architectural presence.

The interior features a hanging rail with original brass hooks, offering ample storage for garments. Beneath, a full-width drawer provides additional space and is fitted with ornate brass handles. Raised on tall, square legs, the piece carries a refined, elevated stance, allowing for a lighter profile despite its generous proportions.

This wardrobe is not only functional but also a rare find with its documented Dublin provenance , as Millar & Beatty were one of the most highly regarded cabinetmakers and house furnishers in Ireland during the 19th and early 20th centuries. Their work is scarce on today's market, making this a particularly desirable collector's piece.

Caring for your items

Vintage period and original items, such as leather seating, will always have a natural patina in the form of cracking, creasing and wear.

We recommend regular waxing to ensure no moisture is lost and to keep out of sunlight.

For Hand-Dyed leather items, we don't recommend placing them in direct sunlight for prolonged periods, as they will dry out and fade.

For wood, we recommend regular, thorough cleaning and waxing also.

Care

To maintain the beauty and integrity of your purchase, we recommend treating it with care. Simple maintenance practices, such as gentle washing and proper storage, can effectively preserve the longevity of your favorites. We encourage you to refer to the care instructions included with each item, designed to help you keep your purchase in top condition.
