Antique 1760s Chippendale Style Wall Mirror with Giltwood Phoenix

A striking antique 1760s Chippendale style wall mirror , beautifully decorative and full of Georgian character. The mirror features a richly shaped mahogany frame with elegant scrolling edges, carved details, and a wonderful architectural silhouette typical of mid-18th century English design.

The frame is centred by a bevelled mirror plate, bordered by a decorative giltwood inner slip with carved foliate detail. The gilt finish adds warmth and contrast against the dark polished wood, giving the mirror a refined, country house presence.

To the crest is a wonderful carved and gilded phoenix bird , set within an open circular mount, giving the piece a highly decorative and symbolic quality. The phoenix, traditionally associated with renewal and rebirth, adds a dramatic focal point to the mirror. A carved gilt shell motif to the lower section further enhances the Georgian decorative style.

The mirror has a beautiful aged patina, with visible signs of age and use throughout, including wear to the gilding, surface marks, small splits, rubbing, and antique character to the frame. The reverse also shows age, construction details, and wear consistent with a period piece.

This is a highly characterful Chippendale style wall mirror, ideal for a hallway, drawing room, bedroom, study, country house interior, or above a console or fireplace. It has that theatrical Georgian charm: elegant, ornamental, and just slightly mythical with its gilded phoenix crest.

A rare and decorative antique wall mirror with giltwood detailing and phoenix crest, full of 18th century style, presence, and historic charm.

Caring for your items

Vintage period and original items, such as leather seating, will always have a natural patina in the form of cracking, creasing and wear.

We recommend regular waxing to ensure no moisture is lost and to keep out of sunlight.

For Hand-Dyed leather items, we don't recommend placing them in direct sunlight for prolonged periods, as they will dry out and fade.

For wood, we recommend regular, thorough cleaning and waxing also.

Care

To maintain the beauty and integrity of your purchase, we recommend treating it with care. Simple maintenance practices, such as gentle washing and proper storage, can effectively preserve the longevity of your favorites. We encourage you to refer to the care instructions included with each item, designed to help you keep your purchase in top condition.

Our dedication to excellence extends beyond materials; it encompasses the artistry and craftsmanship illustrated in every piece we create.
